Born as Rajni on January 5, 1948, in the tranquil village of Depla, near the sacred Jain pilgrimage site of Palitana, Gujarat. He was the son of Shri Dalichand and Smt. Champaben, devoted followers of Jainism.
From a young age, the young Rajni exhibited an extraordinary inclination toward spirituality and introspection. His father, a deeply religious man, played a pivotal role in introducing him to the rich traditions of Jain philosophy and ethical living.
The spiritual atmosphere of Palitana, with its magnificent Jain temples atop Shatrunjaya Hill, became a constant source of inspiration that would shape the entire trajectory of his life.
Rajni's life was profoundly influenced by the guidance of Acharya Shri Vijay Bhuvanbhanusuri Maharaj, whose teachings ignited an insatiable thirst for spiritual knowledge in the young seeker.
Under the guru's careful tutelage, Rajni deepened his understanding of Jain scriptures, philosophy, and the rigorous practices of ascetic life. This formative period instilled in him the discipline, scholarship, and compassion that would define his legacy.
The guru-disciple relationship became the foundation upon which his entire spiritual edifice was built โ one of profound reverence, learning, and the transmission of sacred knowledge.
In 1967, at the age of 19, Rajni took the momentous step of renouncing worldly life. Taking Jain monastic initiation โ diksha โ under Bhuvanbhanusuri, he adopted the name Muni Shri Ratnasundarvijayji Maharaj.
From that day forward, he embraced the rigorous discipline of Jain ascetic life: walking barefoot across India, adhering to the Jain precept of ahimsa (non-violence), and observing strict practices including not eating or drinking between sunset and sunrise.
After diksha, he immersed himself in deep study and spiritual practice. By the age of just 21 โ merely three years after initiation โ he began delivering powerful discourses that drew vast audiences.
In 1996, in recognition of his profound scholarship, exemplary conduct, and transformative spiritual leadership, he was elevated to the rank of Acharya โ the highest monastic designation โ as Acharya Vijay Ratnasundarsurishwarji Maharaj Saheb.
In accordance with strict Jain ascetic traditions, Acharya Maharaj Saheb has not bathed since his diksha in 1967. He walks barefoot, owns no possessions, and observes the practice of not eating or drinking between sunset and sunrise โ the embodiment of complete renunciation.
